Although the chilly, damp weather that morning may have kept some at home on Memorial Day, around 200 people spent part or all of their holiday at Peniel Bible Camp on May 27, 2013.
The annual Memorial Day service in the chapel began with patriotic music played by Kim VanderSchel on the french horn. Pastor Dan Greenfield (Orwell Bible Church), president of the Ohio Bible Fellowship, led the 11:00 a.m. service. He reminded us of the freedoms we hold dear in our country and honored the servicemen and veterans in the service. The Star Spangled Banner was sung by Sharon Rupert and Meagan Greenfield. Several songs were sung using verses from centuries past set to familiar tunes. Pastor Graydon Cox brought the message of the morning. Listen to his message here.
Following the service everyone headed over to Ashbrook Hall for the Memorial Day picnic. The camp staff grilled and served hamburgers and hotdogs. Long tables were filled with side dishes, salads, and desserts – a great feast for all who attended.
Activities in the afternoon included games for the children, a three-on-three basketball tournament, boating and fishing, and visiting with friends. The flavor-of-the-day in the Snack Shop was Orange Creamsicle ice cream and it seemed to be a real hit as many were seen around camp licking ice cream cones.
The 5K Fun Run/Walk commenced at 2:30 with the first runner crossing the finish line 20 minutes later. Pastor Mark Perry (Westerville Bible Church) was the fastest male runner and Miss Amy Sheeter (Fayette Bible Church) was the first female to cross the finish line. All the runners did well and many commented on how much better they had done on our backwoods course than last year!
The annual Memorial Day Offering was received in the service. As announced previously, the offering project is to provide more suitable and permanent housing for our Program Director. The Ohio Bible Mission would like to begin building this year — when enough funds are in hand. More information, as well as pictures of what the house may look like, is posted here. If you want to give to this project, you may do so online or by mail. See information on our web page. We are thankful for the monies that have already come in for this project and will keep you updated on the progress on our website.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then we have 137 thousand words to share with you on our Peniel Bible Camp Facebook page.
Trust you had as blessed a Memorial Day as we at Peniel Bible Camp had!
